Lie Down With You
(Meg Barnhouse)
Mama had some sayings that were part of my education. I can only think of one that might fit this situation: "If you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas." I just met you, Honey, and it's brought me to my knees. I wonder, wonder, yeah I wonder what would it do if I was to lie down with you.
If you were a writer, would I wake up with stories? If you were a gardner, would I wake up in morning glories? If you were an angel, would I wake up with feathers? If you were a biker, would I wake up in leathers? I wonder, wonder, yeah I wonder what would it do if I was to lie down with you.
If you were in business, would I wake with loss or profit? If you were a quitter, could I wake up and stop it? If you were a criminal, would I wake up bad? If you were an engineer would I wake up with a C.A.D.? I wonder, wonder, yeah I wonder what would it do if I was to lie down with you.
What would Mama think of you? Are you a dog, or will you be true? What would Mama say to me about this chemistry?
If you were an artist, would I wake up blue? If you were a therapist would I wake up with a clue? If you were a nurse, would I wake up healed? If you were a journalist, would I wake up revealed? I wonder, wonder, yeah I wonder what would it do if I was to lie down with you.
What would Mama think of you? Are you a dog, or will you be true? What would Mama say to me about this chemistry?
